Cheap ways to enjoy the summer

by David Kramer

Created on: May 05, 2010

Good news is on the horizon, regardless of what the economy is doing.  Summer is free this year, and highly valuable.  Get ready, gear up, and enjoy!  Yes that is correct, the government has not taxed the season yet and there are still many things that can be done which wont cost anything but have a high rate of return.

Get back to nature. Summer offers some longer and warmer days.  We've become a people conditioned by our air conditioners, but even on the warm days there are ways to get out under the shade of a tree or in body of water to cool off while enjoying the fresh air.  Even if in the middle of a densely populated metro area, get out and explore that concrete jungle.  It costs nothing and the sights, the sounds, the smells are better than the what can be watched on television or the internet, because you get to select your reality and control the show.

The evenings with another person sitting outside and watching the sunset or the dark sky can invite much more enjoyable conversations that are far more memorable than emails or text messages.   These moments shared wont consume minutes or go over the monthly data plan.  There is nothing like a cool summer night breeze shared with a friend or special someone exchanging words.

Rained out, no problem. Sure it might be a little cold, but a a shower from the clouds can be refreshing.  Who says you cannot run out in the rain, get your clothes soaking wet, and jump around in puddles?  It was fun as a child and can be just as fun as an adult.  Wash away those paradigms that fun has to end with age.  Be silly and just enjoy.

Feel the blades of grass under your feet, the sand oozing through your toes or the pebbles on the sidewalk.  Listen to the leaves rustle as acoustical accompaniment to the birds. Examine the intricacies of the flower and and the smell of the wind.  It is all there free for the taking.

Use the imagination and just enjoy the weather and the season.  If it is summer or any of the the other three, embrace it and enjoy it.  It is only us that put a price tag on what we think we need in order to enjoy life.  Yet most of the valuable things this life has to offer, are there for free if we just take note of it.  Enjoy the season, whatever one you may be in.
