I have to ask, who even came up with this question? Was it Rush Limbaugh? The KKK? Some protestant evangelical preacher? This is one of the most ridiculous questions ever asked on Helium. I understand that the right wing are entitled to their opinions, but someone explain to me how this question is not bigoted. "Too many" Latinos? For whom? Right wingers will often tell you that affirmative action is wrong. That having quotas for minimum numbers of various minorities is unfair to whites and actually hurts the minorities it feigns to help. So, we don't want minimums, but we want maximums? Sure, right wingers. You just go ahead and convince yourselves you're not bigots.
I happen to be a Colorado Rockies fan. The ace of their staff happens to be a fellow named Ubaldo Jimenez-a Latino from the Dominican Republic. Their next most promising pitcher is Jorge de la Rosa, from Mexico. Among their up and coming every day players is Carlos Gonzalez-from Venezuela.
Is the person who originally asked this question asking that the Colorado Rockies (as an example) throw away the opportunity to display young talent because (s)he doesn't like the color of said talent's skin? I'm truly dumbfounded by the question.
And, to the person who asked the question-how many is too many? Should we limit the number to five per team? To three per team? Is this another one of those arguments that "they're coming to this country and taking our jobs?"
Did the person who originally asked the question really believe (s)he was going to be a major league ballplayer? Seriously. Can anyone come up with one quality reason why this question would ever be asked by anyone in the first place? I'll give all responses their due attention-before I toss them in the garbage where they belong.
Are there too many Latino players in baseball? My most simple answer to the question is, there are as many Latinos in baseball as there is Latino talent. (Actually, that is probably not true. There is probably more untapped talent not playing-using Cuba as an example).
If the original person who proposed the question feels there should be less of an influence among Latino players, perhaps (s)he should become a scout for a major league club and unearth this plethora of (presumably) white talent that is not getting a fair shake.
