As I reflect on what we take for granted but cannot live without, I am urged to mention the relationship/marriage/partnership. Many of us, likely at some points in our lives have felt taken advantage of by someone, and many of us have also been the ones that have taken advantage of another to some capacity. When I think of this topic, I think of a relationship/partnership. When a woman or man becomes involved with another on a partnership basis. One of the parties, who typically does not mind being the one behind the scenes, works tirelessly to bring a company, a project or organization to the surface. This person is responsible for the presence of this particular endeavor, has done all things needed alone to bring it forth to the capacity that it is now. At the same time, working diligently in other business matters that have brought forth success, at the same time doing all that is necessary to keep their home and relationship on a smooth coarse. However, the other person rarely acknowledges her or his efforts. When asked about their accomplishments, they speak as if they have done it all and down the line, pulled in the great assistance of the one they take for granted.
When something doesn't fall into place, they tend to look at the other as if it is somehow the fault of them instead of their own. All the credit but none of the blame syndrome.
Rarely saying thank you, or what would I do without you. However, if the other walked away today, they'd be lost. This is not an option to the one that is taking advantage of another. They realize if nothing else, that they cannot lose the other. However. they do very little to ensure that this fate isn't in the cards for them. This is a form of taking advantage of another. When you do not do anything that shows appreciation, however, automatically assume that you won't lose the other.
Behind the person that is standing in the limelight speaking of their great accomplishments, does anyone look to find the other who through, blood sweat and tears fought to get them there. Rarely do we do this.
In many cases, success was not achieved by the face alone. It was the person that sacrificed a lot to ensure that success. They don't want to lose them, but make no drastic effort to keep them. It's time to make a change and realize what you have, appreciate it, cherish it, because, even the meek of us will soon grow weary and fade away.
