The Ice Cream Shop, located in historic downtown Apex, is a wonderful little treasure owned and operated by Kim Wall.  This tiny shop, recently redecorated with photos by Creative Clicks Photography, is the cutest place to relax and enjoy everything from a lovely Cappuccino to a fresh lemonade to a banana split.  

The Ice Cream Shop features Hershey's Ice Cream.  You can get all your old favorite flavors like chocolate and strawberry but they also serve up some flavors that are a  little wilder!  You can try Cherry Chocolate Cordial which is almost sinful or you can give Muddy Sneakers a go, which is white chocolate ice cream laced with candy and chocolate or if you're really adventurous you can test out Chile Pepper Chocolate, which Kim describes as, "Decadent chocolate ice cream with a secret blend of spices... "  It's got a little bit of a kick to it!

The reason The Ice Cream Shop is such a great place, besides the yummy ice cream and the lovely coffee, is it takes you back to a simpler time.  You walk in the door and you can't help but be reminded of days gone by. You're transported back in time to when you were a kid and a store like The Ice Cream Shop was common place.  

They have awesome shakes and floats here, too.  We never leave until my husband's gotten his beloved Root Beer Float. He likes it so much, he doesn't share!  The smoothies are the best.  They use all fresh ingredients and you can totally tell.  

Coffee comes either hot or cold and it always delicious.  You can even add a scoop of ice cream to your hot coffee.  This is a far better cup of coffee than Starbucks.  And the kids can get a hot chocolate while you enjoy your coffee.  

You an also buy pints and quarts of your favorite ice cream to take home and enjoy.  

There's a daily special which is written on the chalkboard in front of the store.  Besides daily specials, The Ice Cream Shop offers a dollar off if your child comes in wearing their sports uniform.  If you get an A on a test, bring your parent and your test to receive a free  kiddie cone. And you can ask Kim about playgroup specials, too.

Summer hours for The Ice Cream Shop are Monday through Saturday from Noon to 9 pm and Sundays from 1 pm.

In the Winter, the shop is closed on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Noon to 5 pm.  Thursdays through Saturdays from Noon to 8 pm.  And  you have to love this, Sundays the store is open if it's warm and sunny.  

There's nothing better than bringing the kids downtown to The Ice Cream Shop and enjoying a game of checkers outside the store and enjoying downtown Apex, which is the next best thing to Mayberry.
