Shepherd's Vineyard is a great neighborhood located in Apex, North Carolina. There are a few neighborhoods connected to Shepherd's Vineyard including Knollwood. Most of the houses here were built between the 60s and the 90s, with some houses being a bit older and some being a bit newer.
While a lot of the houses have the same layout, they all look different on the outside. Most houses here are well-kept and maintained. You won't find overgrown lawns here or dead cars in the front yard. Most owners and renters are responsible folks who take care of their space and are respectful to others.
It's a great family neighborhood within walking distance to Apex High School. Apex Elementary School and Apex Middle School are where the kids in this neighborhood go to school. Shepherd's Vineyard is sometimes called A Triple Apex Neighborhood referring to the three Apex schools these kids attend. At this writing, in May of 2010, all these schools are on a Traditional School Calendar. Wake County has some schools that are on a Year Round schedule.
Shepherd's Vineyard has a neighborhood watch program but nothing much happens there in a criminal sense. Probably because there are many people looking out for their neighbor's properties.
The Pool at Shepherd's Vineyard, located at the Old Raleigh Road entrance to the neighborhood is a great place to hang out with your neighbors all summer long. You can join the pool for about $400 dollars each year. This is a lot of fun for the kids and the adults as well.
The Eva Perry Regional Library is also located at the Old Raleigh Road entrance. You can walk to the library easily from Shepherd's Vineyard. The Eva Perry Library is a great resource right in the neighborhood. They've got summer reading programs and a whole host of activities to choose from for kids and adults.
Food Lion is less than a mile away, on Laura Duncan Road, so it's within walking distance for Shepherd's Vineyard. In the Food Lion strip mall there's a Chinese restaurant, a salon, a pizza place and various other retail stores. Gaston's Garage is also located next to this area.
Downtown Apex is just a few minutes away. So if you don't feel llike going to Beaver Creek or Cary Towne Center to shop, you've got a quaint area to stroll and shop. Downtown Apex is absolutely adorable. It's like a time travel trip. There's an ice cream shop, several clothing stores, a great coffee shop and the locally famous Rusty Bucket, an antique store.
Homes in Shepherd's Vineyard range from about $250,000 to about $400,000. Some have garages and some do not. Yards are average sized and some houses on Apache Lane back up to the greenway which is a great place to walk or jog.
Overall, Shepherd's Vineyard is one of the best, established neighborhoods in Apex. The houses are modest but comfortable and the neighbors are friendly and kind. You'd be hard pressed to find a better neighborhood in Apex.
