Rope of Sin
I feel the rope within my hand,
And look again at the land.
A chain was what I always thought,
Would hold me to this spot.
But it is a braid of my own sin,
That brings me here again.
I feel the rope above my head,
As my heart fills with dread.
No chain has the strength,
That is woven in this length.
I know it will be at my end,
My only lasting friend.
I feel the rope slide down,
And know the time is now.
But can forgiveness find my soul,
Or lift my heart's open hole?
Remembering the days of my life,
I cry over the times of strife.
I feel the rope tighten on me,
And hope this will set me free.
But I know the stain will continue on,
And follow me when I am gone.
This is the last time I will say sorry to you,
And hope you will say so too.
