-Background-
For the past 7 or 8 years we have always used cordless telephones connected to our land line. The only problem we had with these was that we kept forgetting where we had put it. This was one of the reasons we went for a twin set as we could page the other handset should we misplace it. As we are on the NTL (as it was then) network, we decided to go for the NTL D1101 product, just in case it performed better on the NTL network.
-Whats in the box-
As you can imagine, the box was quite bulky as there was a lot going on inside it. There were two phones, two bases, two chargers and an instruction manual. One of the bases is classed as the master and doubles up as a digital answering machine.
-Set up-
As with all phones, you will need to let them charge for a few hours before use. I would recommend leaving the phones to charge overnight. You will probably, at this stage want to enter all of your important phone numbers into the phone. This is simple to do. Just use the numeric buttons to cycle through the letters until you find the one you require, and then move on to the next one. In summary, its just like a mobile phone in that respect. One problem I have with doing this is that there is no transfer facility from one phone to the other. So, if you have 30 entries in one phone, the only way to get those 30 entries into the other phone is to sit and re-key them all.
-Useage-
The phones are very simple to use. The keys are large enough so that even the unsteadiest of hands would have trouble mis-keying. Retrieving numbers from the phone book is straightforward too. Simply, press the book key and scroll though the list until you find the number. I would actually say that, if you have a lot of entries in the phone book and you know the number of the person you want to call, it is probably quicker to just dial the number.
One feature I do like is the paging facility. This can be used in 2 ways. The first way is more of a novelty for the home user. You can page the other handset, just like in an office situation though the chances of you being out of shouting distance from the other person on a normal sized house make this feature redundant. Where this feature does become useful is when an external call is received on one handset and the person who the caller wants to speak to is sat in another part of the house near the other handset.
