Do single mothers raise bad sons?

To think that single mothers will or could raise bad son is totally ridiculous. The Kray twins came from a standard two parent family that did not stop them from growing up to be at the forefront of organised crime in London’s East End during the 50’s and 60’s. Their crimes ranged from armed robbery to torture, so the stabilising influence of having both parents did little to help them.

Then on the flip side we have a well known tattoo artist Ami James, he was raised by a single mother and has turned out very well and shows no signs that not having a father figure around has affected his development in any way.

You can research it as much as you like and there will more than likely be a balance between good sons raised by single parents and bad ones, just as there will be good sons raised in two parent families and bad ones raised in two parent families.

To consider sons raised by single mother to be at a higher risk of turning out badly down the line is prejudice, it like saying that Asian sons are more likely to turn out to be bad just because of recent terror attacks. There is no evidence t support any claim that a child raised by a single parent, whether it be mother or father are going to grow up to be bad.

I believe that what determines a person’s personality is more about how they are raised, rather than by how many people are actively involved in the raising. If the environment the child is being raised in is loving and supportive then the child has every chance to grow up to be an asset to society; and not a burden to it.

As a single mother to my two year old son I do worry about certain aspects of life that I will struggle to teach him; his first shave for instance. I know the basics it can’t be much different to legs or under arms but as the hair grows differently this could prove tricky as I obviously have no need to shave my face.

There are numerous other areas in which I do not have any expertise in, but one way or another I will battle my way through each as they arise. I have male friends who are no hand to help with the more delicate topics as and when they arise so I have no doubt that my son will grow up to be a positive influence on the world around him.
