Best television sitcoms of the 1980s

The 1980's was one of the best era's in television. There were many great sitcoms that will never be forgotten. Unlike todays television shows there was no such thing as " Reality TV". In reality, we all know that its not " Reality". Producers and Directors stir up drama just for good ratings. What happend to good wholesome sitcom TV? As much as we all would like to think it still exists, the chances of that are pretty slim. All we can do is hope one day that Hollywood will realize what they had and sitcoms will make a comeback.

The best 1980's sitcom of all time would have to be The Cosby Show. The cast of The Cosby Show made you feel like you were part of their family. From Dr. Huxtables eating habits to Theo's dating dilemmas, we all had a front row seat. The show premiered in 1984 and lived on until 1992. The show was nominated for 5 Emmy's and won 2. They also won many other awards such as The Directors Guild Award in 1985 and 2 Golden Globes in 1986 and 1985. This was ultimately a sitcom no one will forget.

Another popular 1980's sitcom was " Cheers". Who could forget that catchy theme song? That alone was enough to get your attention. The show ran from 1982 to 1993. Starring Ted Danson, Rhea Pearlman, Woody Harrelson, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Shelly Long and Kristie Alley. The show won 6 Golden Globes, 7 ASCAP Awards, and 3 American Comedy awards as well as many others. We all tuned in to see the lives of  the Boston bars regulars " Where everybody knows your name!"

One sitcom that also made a big statement was Designing Women, starring, Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, Delta Burke and Jean Smart. The show was based on 4 southern women who ran their own Interior Design Company. We learned so much more about the cast personal lives than decorating for sure. The show aired in 1986 until 1993. The show won an Emmy in 1988, a GLADD Media award in 1991 and also were nominated for many more.

We should all be so thankful for re- runs and Nick at Nite for allowing us to re- live these great moments. If you get a chance you may just want to DVR a few episodes. Our children may never know what a good sitcom is unless we teach them. These shows are a few we will never forget and let's hope and pray that these kinds of television series somehow make their way back into every home around the world.
