Witty quotes by women

by Father Time

Created on: April 29, 2010

You have to love the Katharine Hepburn quote, "If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun." However my most favorite from "Kate" is the famous reply about men and women, "Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then." This sounds good, doesn't it? They always say that "Many a truth is said in jest."

Then there are the words of wisdom from Lucille Ball, "The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and just lie about your age." We still LOVE you...Lucy! Speaking of that, everyone should have at least a few DVDs of "I Love Lucy." If you are ever sad or blue, lonely or bored, or need an occasional emotional "connection" to the distant past (for those of us getting up there in age); just pop in a DVD of that "crazy redhead" and within a few miuntes...YOU WILL feel much better!

In 1958, Margaret Mead said, "Women want mediocre men, and men are working hard to be as mediocre as possible." Ouch! It does sound true, though, even today! And our beloved Jane Austen told us, "In nine cases out of ten, a woman had better show more affection than she feels." That advice from Jane was said in 1813, and it can still apply 197 years later!

Erma Bombeck told us, at the age of 52, "I was thirty-seven when I went to work writing the column. I was too old for a paper route, too young for Social Security, and too tired for an affair." Anne Sexton pointed out, "In a dream you are never eighty."

There have always been numerous intelligent, powerful and influential women in the world, and they have always had awesome things to say. There are actually books out there, that only contain quotes from women, and this piece could easily have featured hundreds of great quotes! My all time favorite, and one of the best ever, is what I chose to close this piece with...

Although the following quote is only slightly humorous, it is one of the greatest from Emily Post, who wrote the book, when it comes to "Etiquette!" She told us, in her infinite wisdom, "Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use."

Many Blessings!
