There are many people, all around the world who are addicted to the Internet. Like obesity, the Internet has become the latter day plague of the 21st Century. The addiction to the Internet can be deep, with those who use the system {which is nearly everyone on the planet} suffering terribly with withdrawal symptoms more akin to 'cold turkey'. People -especially the young or old who are suffering with loneliness,or unhappiness - or those who are insecure within themselves in some way, may be more likely to become addicted.
Children as young as ten years of age can also suffer with violent mood swings when they cannot get on the Internet and onto their favourite sites. Long gone are the days when children would be seen playing outside, in the fresh air, riding bikes, or skipping, playing ball, or just going for a walk in the park. Now the Internet has taken over every single aspect of our lives and it is more akin to a kind of leech that is literally sucking the life energy out of human beings.
This leech is a kind that cannot be killed off easily, it seeps into the minds of those who love the Internet. Minutes, hours and days can pass by without some people leaving their homes at all. Only if they are forced to go out, do they so so, reluctantly. But, even then most people have Mobile Internet, so they are always connected no matter where they are.
The Internet is, and has been so far, the greatest invention in the history of Mankind {bar the wheel.} And it has enabled us to keep in touch, instantly with friends and family who may be all around the world. We can talk to them and see them on web cams, as if they were in the same room, which brings them closer still to us. The Internet is an amazing creation where everything and anything can be found at the typing of a few keys.. There are millions of sites on subjects that many of us may never even have heard off, and the Internet has definitely taken over lending libraries as the font of all knowledge.
It is easy to see why people have become, and can become so easily addicted to the Internet...but herein lies the danger... Addiction. The Internet has become akin to drug abuse, too much of it, can send a person into information overload. We have so many sites that we can visit, that sometimes we become dizzy with it all. And new sites, it seems, are being created every day. As for chatting,we chat to people we don't know, on the Internet, without a care.
