My mother is my best friend
Omnipresent in my thoughts
Teaches me courage and fortitude
Hardworking homemaker
Embracing all my shortcomings

My mother's cardigan
Still hangs on the back of her chair,
A fluffy pink confection
Of kitten-soft mohair,
Take me back
Back to a time
Life was different
Things were simple
Surrounded by love
And adoration for each other
We stuck close

There's a place in the morning light,
a moment...there just for awhile,
when the newness of the day shines
