Novel excerpts: Sunrise in my garden

by Abe Sanz

Created on: April 29, 2010

Quite frankly speaking, I felt contrary to that of the person that I was before last night.  After my eyes closed, all my feelings of remorseful pain turned into a silent memory of a time that was. I woke up to the unforgettable sight of an empty nest, as my pillows were soaked in my tears. It was a somber sight of discomfort but I was faced with the reality that it was a sure sign of things to come. The unmentionable moment had past as I soon succumb to an overwhelming feeling of gleaming joy.

I was awoken by the sounds of the mourning doves chirping to the rhythmic song of sadness outside my window. I gazed into the eyes of the dove and saw that all my love had drifted away as it flew into the horizon. The astonishing sight lurking in the East soon confounded me to a window without a view.  I immediately jumped out my bed and ran out my bedroom door to the presumption that he had returned. I reached the end of the staircase unforgotten to the fact that he would no longer come to my arms in the morning.

I held the top rail with an intense grip full of hatred, animosity and discontent as I soon let go and gracefully walked down the stairs. I cannot say that thinking of him was a moment cherished but it was a way for me to unleash my frustration. Knowing the things we said the night before and the consequential attributes to a domestic dispute that lead to his departure. I walked into the kitchen as I tried to go about my morning routines but the thoughts of my day did not seem right. I was emotionally distressed, as I did not know what to do with myself as I grabbed the kitchen knife out the utensil drawer.

I walked out the back door and into the garden as I saw a lifeless soul staring into the water fountain. However, it was only the reflection of the sun flashing over the fountain waters. I must say that I was startled by the rays of the sunrise as it drew upon me to light the path to an awaiting grave that was an unprecedented agony to perceive as I was so blinded by guilt. I knew that this day had to eventually come to an end as I proceed towards the unmarked tomb with knife in hand. I cautiously buried the murder weapon besides his shallow grave to avoid suspicion while I withdrew back to my home whistling to the tune of the sounds of the songbird.
