What will you leave behind?

by Bernice Dennis

Created on: April 29, 2010

The average person wants to leave something behind after they are gone. Men have long struggle with what that would be. Most of us would like to leave something memorable for those we love.  We hate to think that once we are gone we are no longer remembered.  Therefore, we give great thought to the perfect thing to leave behind.  Some men have had bust made of themselves, and placed them in parks and museums-just to be remembered. These items usually end up collecting dust or bird poop. There are only so many months in a year; therefore we all cannot claim a National holiday in our memory.

When I read the topic “What will you leave behind’’ the answer was clear -leave something that will last, wisdom. Wisdom is like a precious gem, it’s more precious than silver or gold; that is something worth leaving. I want to live my life so that; the good I do will be remembered.  I want to live the life I profess before God.  My faith in God will be a lasting gift that will last long after I am gone.

As a Christian I have found the best thing to leave behind is an example: of how to live in harmony with your fellow man. If a man/woman can past from this life into the next and, leave the following impressions on those whom they had contact with-fantastic!

Kindness:

A kind and gentle heart turns away wrath.  Show a friendly attitude towards others regardless to who they are, takes strength from God.

Joy:

Joy comes from within; it is not based on wealth, friends or material possessions. True joy is a gift from God.

Thankful:

We have so many things to be thankful for and yet we complain. If, we would remind those around us to always be thankful for the gift of life and appreciate what they have-life.

Humble/Humility:

Some people misunderstand being humble as a weakness, Christ was the strongest man that has ever lived, and the most humble. To humble your-self; means that other are more important to you than yourself.

Peace:

When peace is in your heart it flows like a river –then and only then do you understand living. The mind is not to be boggled down with unnecessary worry.

Happiness:

True happiness is a gift that comes from God. To be able to display a life of happiness will lead others too want that gift, and seek God. That is our whole purpose in life to lead others to Christ.

Give/and Giving:

The spirit of giving is the most rewarding thing a person can do-it grows on you. The scripture says,’’ It is better to give than to receive.’’  Try it and see.

These are the fruits of the spirit; we under our own power cannot achieve them, but only through Christ can we leave behind a legacy of this magnitude.  Hopefully your life impression will be passed from one generation to another-would you like that? Or would you rather work hard save and, have it all blown before your body gets cold.
