Writing political articles on the internet is a great way to express your views as well as gain exposure as a writer. While publishing work on the internet is different from publishing articles in magazines and newspapers the quality should not suffer.
First of all, keep your articles focused on a particular topic. Do not stray from the topic unless necessary. For example, if you're writing about the recent actions of one political party that you support it might not be appropriate to spend half the article attacking the other party. However, you can still discredit or mention some of the other party's tactics without making the article about that party. It's okay to mention other issues or individuals from other parties, but don't let them become tangents.
Remember that an article is not the same thing as a blog. Follow the rules of grammar. Recognize that writing an article is not the same as ranting. If you want to write a piece on politics that is not focused on any issue, but is just a rant about your personal frustrations that is more appropriate for a blog. Political articles should not be rants. They should express your views and defend your positions. Ranting won't help you do that very well. It will only turn people off to your political views and won't get your points across in a clear and concise manner.
Finding the right websites for which to post your work is also important. Any site that can offer you exposure is good, but you need to make sure that you find a niche. Find a website that is suitable for the articles you write. Whenever you receive comments or feedback take it as an opportunity to network and even build a group of regular readers. Interact, when possible, with the people who are reading your articles. Once you find a website that is your niche remember that you can still expand and submit to other websites and magazines. Developing a growing number of readers can give you a leg up when you submit to other publishers who have a wider audience and may be more selective in the articles they accept.
Have goals for your articles. Think about where you want to submit, but also consider the readers. Who do you want to read your articles? Who is most likely to read your articles? What websites will give you the most access to the type of reader you want to reach? What subjects can you write about most convincingly? All of these are important things to consider when writing political articles on the internet.
