Red Dead Redemption is best described as G.T.A. IV the old west version. However, that is a lazy comparison when you pit the two together. R.D.R. is the wild west with all the mayhem and debauchery we expect from seeing so many spaghetti western movies. Couple that with Rock Star's history of outperforming itself with over the top immoral scenarios and you have a winner. Yet with R.D.R. you actually have those moral chances to affect the game and it's world with your actions. Kill everyone in a town; expect a hostile meeting between sheriff and posse in another. You can walk or horse ride (horsies ya!) to anywhere in the game world and will encounter anything and everything. For the truly twisted you can even rope people as you pass by and drag them across the terrain you sick monster. For the undertaker types you can loot the dead of their gold. For the info maniacs you could walk up to a camp fire and listen to gossip from the outer territories. For the explorers you can hunt and skin animals; fur was currency to a lot of traders back then. Animals will attack and kill each other as they would in the real world. You can even take part in military skirmishes with a lot of back up. The story line as you expect will have you roping in your old gang and lead you down a path of respect/heroism, or fear and carnage as the most hated outlaw ever. You can get in quick draw matches with men trying to make a name for themselves by taking you down to a dirt nap.
If the main game is not enough to spark even a little excitement, then you are truly lost to the game world. Don't fret yet as there is one major piece to the R.D.R. experience and that is the multiplayer feature.
Unlike most games where you have to join a match and stick to certain maps; R.D.R. let's you explore the open world with your friends or join posse's in progress. Take on gang hideouts or defend your own. Go hunting with your friends for big game or shoot one another to see who can be the real McCoy. Red Dead Redemption will have an open, breathing, active world for players to tackle alone or with friends. Either way R.D.R will bring gamers to the old west like no other game before it. Saddle up for wild west action that even Clint Eastwood could chomp a cigar to this May 18th.
