Poetry: Heroes

An unsung heroes destiny
Maligned becomes a memory
Though it's just some chemistry
Closed my weary eyes, it's you I see

I can't believe we wanted this
I'm hunted by a foregone wish
Zeus once granted Artemis
I dare to taste an angels kiss

Exit quickly out the door
Misconception powers your domain
Though I joined your insane war
Confidence had lost its way

Waiting for the morning news
Open straight to the obituaries
Finding dreams that died on me
Leaving a legacy of overnight obsession

Conscripted into a lesser rank
Obeyed the command of General Chaos
Now bleeding out upon my hands
Holding tight praying for patience

Am I to go home a living hero to myself
Written off on a toe tag
Or silently rocking on a street corner
To the pathetic pounding of a wasted human race?

So many yesterdays covered in ashes
Too many of us walking over one more bridge too far
Tactics fan the fire when freedom crashes
No sweeter hell than flesh on fire.
