As a College student, I've tried various studying techniques. Some work, and some don't, but it's important to remember that everyone is different. Although some things work better for almost everyone, there are always exceptions. Personally, I am jealous of the people who find studying easily. Even with effective study habits, I have difficulty with boredom, distractions, etc. If you're a student reading this, you know exactly what I mean. Here are some suggestions:
1. Find out what atmosphere works best for you:
For some students, studying in a group is incredibly productive. When it comes to memorizing facts, I enjoy this method because it makes the task slightly less boring. The issue is ensuring that you will actually study. I am able to study in groups, but I've learned to avoid studying with friends who simply aren't effective studiers. Furthermore, there are different location options for studying. The library is an excellent place to study because the atmosphere is designed around that. My only requirement for studying there is having music to tune out noise. Music without words, such as classical, has shown to be more beneficial for studying. I also know there are atmospheres that work poorly for studying. For me, I know that if I plan to finish studying in the morning, I either won't wake up or will be unproductive. Experimentation is necessarily to determine all the little details of your studying environment. It can be a nuisance, but it's beneficial in the long run.
2. Establish a routine:
If you have difficulty studying, like I do, you may need to establish a routine. I don't know the psychological explanation behind routine, but it can be extremely beneficial to effective studying. In the past, I have established a rule of studying at least X amount of hours a day. I start with one hour, and I gradually increase this time throughout the term. If I am tired, I do that amount of studying. If there is a special event, I do the studying before I leave. On the weekend, I study. Many people can easily switch from study mode to party mode. Many of us don't operate that way. For example, I once lost a routine of studying three hours a day simply because I didn't study one day. As much as routine can be a nuisance, it's worth considering if you're running out of things to try.
3. Eat healthy and in small doses:
I usually don't eat while studying, but I always have water nearby. Before I study, I used to eat my dinner to ensure that I would not
