Pacing Yourself Today Will Save Your Body Tomorrow
Pacing yourself when attacking a big job is very important to the body, this is especially true if you are someone that suffers with Chronic Pain. This is an important time of year to point this out when we want to spring clean our homes and get busy in the yard we have neglected for several months.
When spring cleaning you may want to delegate certain jobs to family members that are more able to handle the more difficult tasks or that require heavy lifting, such as moving the furniture and cleaning the garage area.
When you head outside, it is a good idea to break up your yard into sections. Sure we all know it would be great to head out in the morning and be truly finished by the afternoon; this is an unreasonable task for many of us.
Even a small amount of weed pulling or the use of yard equipment can leave your body aching and sore the next day. You want to be able to enjoy what you have accomplished not suffer for a few days. Too often, by the time you can return to the yard to enjoy your efforts the yard will soon require more maintenance leaving you feeling defeated. Finishing a small task is even more satisfying when you can enjoy it immediately.
Allowing your body to adjust to the new requirements you are putting on it will be a plus for anyone; taking care of your body when it is healthy will help prevent you from being in a position where these limitations are a requirement.
It is also important to monitor your exposure to the sun’s rays while tending to the yard; everyone needs to get in the sun and be exposed to the natural vitamins it provides but you must be cautious in this aspect as well.
The old say ‘you can’t get too much of a good thing’ is simply not true. While exposure to the sun is very important; exposing your delicate winter skin to too much sun will cause dryness in your skin and burning of the delicate tissues. Sun burns can be quite painful and may cause much more severe damage to your skin than you realize. Often times the results of overexposure will not show up for many years and usually in the form of skin cancer.
Pacing yourself for many is a way of life but it certainly should be considered by everyone.
