Poetry: The Earth

by Rebecca Write

Created on: April 26, 2010

The sailboard burned a hole in me

The only water can fill

She has a new gig

As my paddleboard

Of all things the boat shop in Granbury

Had an old 6” paddle for so long

It had weathered indoors

So I put in at the marina

Only to be blown straight back

A Guiness to steady my nerves

As a honeysuckle vine caresses my cheek

And releases its fragrance

The Paluxy would usually be flooded

But she diverts now

Still there is a bit of whitewater

As people enjoy the new river walk

So there it was

On that April evening

Just after the sun set

As the water turned to black glass

And the earth released her heat

Into the cool air

Which held the exotic flowers perfume
