Iron Man 2, the sequel to the movie block buster Iron Man is being released nation-wide on May 7, 2010. The flick features the return of Tony Stark as the eccentric billionaire turned technology superhero.
A lot of action was shown in the first Iron Man 2 trailer released, but the teaser didn't reveal much in terms of story. The second clip revealed even less of the plotline. The trailer is very short and features a brief exchange between Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, Tony's sleazy competitor, Justin Hammer, and reporter Christine Everhart.
In the first Iron Man 2 trailer Stark begins the movie basking in the glory of being a superhero and with enough guts to thumbs his nose at the US government, particularly Senator Stern, for wanting the Iron man technology to be turned over to the United States military. He states “I am Iron man and the United States is safe. Thank you. Good-bye.”
With the rise of a superhero so early in a movie there has to be a couple of arch-villains for him to do battle with. Whiplash develops a similar power as Iron Man but is more of an exoskeleton with the addition of lightening bolt whips with a personal grudge against Tony Stark.
After a failed attempt to kill Tony Shark as he is racing his Formula One race car, Whiplash joins Justin Hammer to develop fake robotic iron mans. These drones lack in intelligence of the original Iron Man suit, but the intention of the villains is to simply overwhelm Iron Man with sheer numbers.
Finally you see the rise of War Machine, a companion to the original Iron Man suit, worn by LTC Rhodes. This suit definitely lives up to its name, War Machine, being decked out with a ton of armaments. Most identifiable difference is the coloration, LTC Rhodes' suit is steel-colored, opposed to Iron man’s trade mark red and yellow. Topping off this mean looking machine is a large Vulcan cannon mounted on his right shoulder.
The movie seems to flow from the pages of the old marvel comics, but not be overly campy. Marvel has had some success with other comics turn high tech movie superhero like Spiderman, Fantastic Four, X-men, Wolverine, Daredevil, and Blade.
And of course you can’t have Iron Man on the big screen without hearing the Black Sabbath classic “Iron Man” featured in the soundtrack.
Iron Man 2 boasts an all-star cast:
Tony Stark (Iron Man) – Robert Downey Jr.
Lieutenant Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes (War Machine) – Don Cheadle
Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) – Scarlett Johansson
Whiplash - Mickey Rourke
Virginia Pepper Potts – Gwyneth Paltrow
Senator Stern - Gary Shandling
Nick Fury - Samuel L. Jackson
From the trailers, Iron Man 2 appears to be a fast paced, rock and roll, guns blazing, lasers firing, a high speed heavy metal ride. The movie is rated Rated PG-13. This rating is due to sequences of intense sci-fi action; there is also some violence which would be expected in this kind of action film.
Iron Man 2 will be released in theatres on May 7, 2010.
