The psychology of online poker

There is a huge difference between online poker and real life face to face poker that you would play in a casino or at home. Psychology of the online game is fare more complicated than in person, every time somebody feels an emotion they give off a body signal that is considered body language. Reading your opponents body language enables you to understand their hand and what they are thinking however online poker you cannot see the person! So how do you read your opponent online?

Watching your opponent showdowns and taking note of their state of play is the best way to understand the psychology of your opponent and how they will try to beat you. Betting patterns are pretty rare to pick up with anyone online that is fairly experienced however if you think you can catch them out or trick them because of this then bluffing is highly recommended.

Many people play poker like it is an entire game of math and follow the odds playing dust till dawn and calculating profit/loss daily. Sure this does work on a very slow basis and doesn't really involve any psychology against your opponent, math means you're playing against the dealer and draw of cards. The only way to make fast effective money online is to know the right times to bluff and understanding your opponent enough to make them fold. Understanding any player's methods means you can understand how they think and you adapt your game to beat them, overall anyone who can understand their opponents playing methods and play over 1,000 hands is always going to be on top of the money.

So we have established you must understand your opponent well before bluffing, play against the cards with math but how do you play at the best you can possibly play? Being unpredictable but passive and precise is the only way to be the perfect poker player which is never easy. Psychologically fooling your opponent by changing you methods is all you can possibly do. Become loose, then tight, then aggressive and mix your game up to become undetectable and entirely unpredictable.

Being unpredictable is a fantastic psychological advantage over your opponent, mixing the fact that you understand them and they do not understand you gives you a huge advantage over everything at the table which also makes you the most money.
