There is nothing worse than losing your writing – I have had this happen to me and it's devastating seeing hours of work, gone. So I invested in online storage to keep my files safe. I started off using Dropbox as they looked like a really simple company and off I went. The problem was I kept exceeding my limits and it started to cost me a lot of money. Then a friend recommended Livedrive to me and I must say they are miles better. It has transformed my life and I had to have a rave about why Livedrive is so much better than Dropbox.
*Cheaper* - If you are after basic storage then you get unlimited storage for the files on one machine with Livedrive backup. This is great for keeping your files secure. If you want to sync across multiple machines, their briefcase product offers the answer, with all the benefits of briefcase AND backup. With Dropbox you have to choose your product based on a storage amount and there is a maximum limit of 100GB.
*Online files* - Because the files are kept online through a secure encryption you can store as much as you like with Livedrive and only access the files that you want to. Basically the amount you store can exceed the storage capacity of your machine. With Dropbox they need a local copy of the file and do these from the smallest file first so you can run out of space on your machine before you have accessed what you want.
*Online music player* - With Livedrive you can stream the music that you have stored as you work, no more CD’s and MP3’s you can just open Livedrive and play all of your favourite tunes from your collection. Dropbox does not have this feature.
*Online document viewing and editing* - Using online document editing tools through Livedrive means that you can edit a document anywhere in the world through the internet portal. Clever online editing tools mean your updated document can still be opened at home later with all the new changes. The place you access the document from does not even need to have Word etc installed! You can then use their application sync tool to publish documents. For example you can upload a photo, edit it using the online editor on any machine and then publish to Facebook from your Livedrive. Dropbox does not have this feature
*Backup *- With Livedrive you can select a folder to keep backed up and then whenever you make any changes they will automatically be stored to your Livedrive account and accessible anywhere. With Dropbox you have to manually move the updated
