Marriage isn't just a game you and your partner join in together for fun. It's a lifelong commitment which both of you promised in the eyes of God to protect and to sustain throughout the rest of your lives together. There are times when things are happy and blissful between you two, but once the situation starts to go topsy-turvy with arguments and hurt feelings it can be a trying time that will test how strong your love and your trust is on one another.
It's impossible to assume that you will never experience hardship in marriage. No matter how much you enjoy the company of your spouse and the love you both share for one another, there will always be times when you would feel like you can't seem to remember why you married him or why you proposed to her in the first place. But this shouldn't be a reason to get out of your marriage at all! It shouldn't also be a reason to just let it rot and dry up to such an extent that it feels like it isn't going to work anymore. When you feel that your marriage is falling apart, take a deep breath, focus your mind on saving your relationship, and take note of the following tips:
1. Retreat to a place where you feel most comfortable and reflect on your marriage. Take this time to figure out what's going on, what went wrong, what are the things that are causing you to fight, and the like. You may need some time to get away and be yourself, so if you feel this is what you need don't hesitate to ask for some time and space. Your spouse may need it too.
2. Approach your spouse only when you are ready to talk. This means being able to patiently voice out your concerns in a calm and mature manner. Don't try to force the issue when things are still heated between you two. It'll only make things worse and will only drive your spouse away even more.
3. Sit your partner down and talk about your marriage and the issues that's affecting it. Communication is one of the most important things that lead to the success of any marriage, which is why you two need to talk and express how you feel about your current situation as a married couple. Along with this, listen to your spouse. Consider what he or she has to say about your attitude, your habits, the way you handle decisions and problems, so on and so forth. This can actually open a new perspective which you may not have considered before, leading to a higher level of understanding.
