Living simply is what camping is all about. Infants really are pretty simple too. They will get more complex to take along as they get older and develop their own preferences but for now they are easy to please and the things they do need are easily portable. If you are breastfeeding it is especially easy to take your baby camping since you don't need to pack formula, or bottles in order to go away on this adventure. The negatives of camping with an infant would mostly revolve around you, the parent, not so much the infant. You as a parent may not feel much like roughing it. It may feel like it is hard enough just to take care of yourself an the baby and other members of the immediate family if there are others. It can be a time when you tire easily and feel out of energy, enthusiasm and adventure.
What does the baby need?
You are the main thing the baby needs. As long as you are there he or she will feel pretty safe. There will also be a need for shelter of some kind with warm bedding, clothing which will include diapers and perhaps a pacifier.
If you are a breastfeeding mother you may not need to pack anything for baby to eat or drink. Many exclusively breastfeed the first six months and even after that there is little volume needed so the food for baby will take up very little space.
Those who are bottle feeding will need to pack formula and if it is powdered will need to pack bottled water to mix it with also. There will also be a need to pack bottles and nipples. This can be a bit complicated but it is not impossible. Most of the things you do at home can be done in a campsite with a little bit of planning ahead. Of course it will depend on whether you are camping in a tent or a trailer what kind of planning a head you will have to do. But in either case it can be done by anyone who really yearns for the great outdoors.
What does the parent need?
If the parent who is planing this outing really needs a back to nature adventure then taking junior out of the city will be well worth it. The fact that you will not sleep in your regular bed and sit on the couch for a few days may sound really good to you. Eating and drinking in the fresh air. Hearing and seeing wildlife up close and often. Even the smell of a wood fire in the open air may be rejuvenating to you. This kind of rejuvenating may be just what the parents need after the stress of childbirth. It may be good to get away from the things at home which distract you from each other and from the other children.
