I don't understand why the animal rights groups haven't called for the boycott of Spain? Animal rights groups have an opinion on everything except for bull fighting. In America, dog fighting is looked down upon by PETA and other groups. How is bull fighting not an issue? Micheal Vick was crucified for his role in operating a dog fighting ring. In Spain, the matador is considered a hero. Maybe Micheal Vick should move to Spain where cruelty to animals is the national past-time.
Watching a man stab a bull with spears is not entertainment. I guess this tradition is intended to show how brave the matador is. I think it's stupid and they need to find another way to prove their bravery. How about if the matador went into the ring blindfolded and handcuffed? That would be the ultimate display of bravery.
I have been told that the bull doesn't feel pain when it stabbed in the shoulder with the little spears. If I was stabbed in the back, I think I would feel it and I'm not sure I would like it much. Have you ever seen the blood pouring from the bull's back when it is stabbed? After the bull endures all the stabs and jeers from the crowd, the matador finally runs a sword into the bull's heart. The meat is supposedly given to poor people for their consumption. The crowd's conscience is washed clean by the donation of the bull's meat to the poor.
I think that American bull riding is a measure of true bravery and the bull lives the life of luxury. American bull riders get on top of a bull and tie their hand to it, in an attempt to ride it for eight seconds. He isn't running around, dressed like a roofing nail while waving his Dracula cape around. The bulls in this sport are like rock stars and have a fan base. These bulls are rated by how many riders they throw off their back and how mean they are. Men get to prove their bravery and the bull is not stabbed while thousands of people cheer.
There is no need for bull fighting. Maybe someday the Spaniards will start riding bulls instead of turning them into large pin cushions. I'm brave, but I don't need to torture an animal to prove it.
