I will start with an extract of a poem which was written by the Bard, (William Shakespeare) which is perfect, and I think is a good analogy for anyone who looks at life with a philosophical appraoch.
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players,
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.
As individuals we are all playing our lives out as if we were a character in a film. Everyday we are faced with making decisions whether it is in business or our personal life, and with each decision we make comes consequence, some decisions that we are faced with are more important than others - and as an individuals in charge of our own destiny only you know if you have made the right choice.
Have you ever sat back and thought "What would have happened if....?"
I'm a 35 year old father of two, with a successful Management career considering the fact that I only a high school education. Have I only achieved this because of the decisions that I have made as an individual? or through hard work and determination? Who's to say that if I had made different choices during my life I may be even more successful, or a complete failure?
Occasionally I wonder what would have happened if I decided not to go on that blind date in 2001, I would not have met my wife, I would not be a father of two wonderful girls, and probably would not be as happy as I am with my life - or maybe I would have done all these things, based on a separate series of events which took me down different roads to get to the same destination.
What would have happened if I decided to go to college and then on to University to get a degree, instead of getting a job straight from school - would I still have met my friend who eventually introduced me to my wife all them years ago?
I am a believer that when you are born, your whole life has already been mapped out for you. The path you take is solely based on the decisions that you make during the journey through life, and if you make the wrong decision then fate will inevitably re-route the path so you end up at the same point you should have been. It may take a little longer, and be a bit more painful than the straight forward path. Being given these choices in life makes us feel in control of our destiny after all this is what makes life so interesting!
One thought that I do have is "Wouldn't it be nice to be 15 years younger, but retain all the knowledge that you have accumulated during your journey so far?" Would you have made the same decisions or would you have chosen a different path to follow.
I know which path I would take!
