Working for an abusive boss will force you to dodge punches like you are dating Chris Brown or Ike Turner. The level of abuse you are willing to take from your boss is completely up to you. No employee should have to deal with verbal, mental, sexual, or physical abuse from their boss. If you find yourself coping with abuse from the boss - fight back! The only options you have are; losing your job fighting the office tyrant or fighting the office tyrant into submission. Fight your abusive boss and win at all cost. Here are some ways to deal with an abusive head honcho:
Verbal Abuser
This is the boss that loves to sling verbal venom at his employees. Most bosses I have worked for fit into this category. The verbally abusive boss can be defeated by beating him at his own game. Start grinding your boss up with some adjectives of your own. This is the only language they understand, so speak their language. Don't worry about lowering yourself to their level. The lines of battle have already been drawn. Build up your adjective arsonal and start slinging verbal judo at your boss.
Mental Abuser
Bosses of this caliber want to rent space in your head. They don't yell or physically hit you. These people do and say things that belittle you into thinking you have no self worth. Take the "For Rent" sign off your forehead and defend your self worth. Show the boss that you are a valuable employee. You don't have to prove yourself to anyone, but show this guy you are no punk.
Physical Abuser
There are two ways to fight the Chris Brown of your office. You can fight back physically or fight back legally. Punching the abusive boss will definitely make you feel better. There is a better way to beat this guy than punching him in the face. I once knew a wise man who told me to "play the victim". This means that you may have an uppercut like Mike Tyson, but let the boss hit you and then sue him for all he is worth. I guarantee that you will be the last employee that will ever be physically abused by this guy.
Sexual Abuser
The sexually abusive boss needs to be reported to upper management. If upper management doesn't fix the problem, report Mr. Wandering Hands to the local police department. Case closed.
Office Tranquility
Don't put up with an abusive boss. Defending yourself may promote others to do the same. Fight back and win office warrior.
