The road and paths taken by an online home business owner will differ from person to person and from business to business. However, there are 3 things every website owner must do from the beginning - choose a domain name for your website, sign up for a web hosting plan and then drive traffic to your site through various advertising and marketing strategies. In this article we will look more at the second step - choosing a web hosting plan. Web hosting is vital for the survival and success of your business website and so care and research must be taken to choose the best possible and most ideal web hosting solution available that fits your needs. Here are three main qualities you should look at to help your decision.

Features

Your business website needs to perform well, be well maintained and offer your users a nice and easy browsing experience. With all these in mind you need to consider factors such as bandwidth, which will affect the speed of your site. If too many people try accessing your site at the same time can your webhost support this or will this cause your website to take forever to load? Also were you planning to share photos, videos or have a lot of content on your website? If so you need to know how much space you will require for your website. An estimation of both bandwidth and web space is important before you lock yourself into a web hosting plan.

Service/Support

Here we look at how quality and performance will always be one of the more important factors to consider as a website owner. Choose a web host that thousands of others trust and also use as this is an indication that you can rely on the hosting company yourself. Some smaller, private companies may not offer you support 24 hours a day, every day, but are only able to help you during office hours in their country. This can get annoying if you are trying to reach them outside business hours and in the meantime your website is experiencing problems and driving visitors away. If you are running a single personal site, with few visitors, then this type of support may not sound critical. However, if you are running a small to medium business and suddenly you have a problem with your site you want to be able to reach help and have the solution solved even if it is 12 midnight anywhere in the world.

Price

A factor that will always help you with your decision will be the cost. Do not, however, always choose the cheapest one. Prices for web hosting can vary from being free to about $30/month. And your decision should take into account features and reliability first before considering price. Once you have narrowed it down to a few companies then compare the prices. If you are starting a website for an online business then it would be wise to stay away from free web hosting options. Such hosting options can do more damage than good to your business. Free hosting companies usually limit your bandwidth, limit the web space and limit the extra features that your website may need. In addition, free hosting usually requires the placement of banner ads on your website which ends up making it look unprofessional.

You must consider all the factors mentioned as a whole package. You cannot compromise any features or reliably issues just because you want to spend less money on you hosting. You can usually get a good reliable web hosting service for about $10 a month. A small price to pay for something with huge potentials.
