With the dizzying and ever-growing array of online writing sites, you may be wondering which ones are really worth your time. Well, here’s a rundown of my experience with Textbroker, its advantages and disadvantages and why it just might be worth checking out.
*ADVANTAGES*
* Quick and easy payouts
The payout threshold is set relatively low at $10.00 and the payout frequency is twice a month. It’s very easy to set up a Paypal account and once you have it set up and linked to your correct email address, requesting a payout requires little more than a click. I find that the low payout threshold keeps me motivated to keep writing and I reached my first one pretty quickly. I call it the “potato chip effect” – I keep wanting just one more.
* Short and Sweet
Many of the orders on Textbroker are for short articles – the average piece I’ve done has been around 300-400 words. As someone who finds it easy to procrastinate or get distracted, the short word count keeps me focused and isn’t as intimidating as longer assignments.
*. Wide Variety of Topics
I sometimes have trouble coming up with topics to write about, but with Textbroker, that’s never a problem. Of course, not all of the open orders are of interest to me, but the range is quite extensive. I’ve done everything from reviews of hotels in Barbados to sales copy for exercise equipment, as well as pieces on the Kentucky Derby and Salvador Dali.
The variety of assignments also affords the opportunity to delve into different types of writing and to discover what you like and dislike. For example, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy writing hotel reviews. Until Textbroker, I had never done one. It’s a really easy, no-risk way to dip your toe into the pool.
* High Degree of Control, Low Rejection Rate
There is no minimum number of articles you must write or any hoops to jump through in order to write for the site. You simply pick an article that falls within your rating range and write the article. You control the process. Textbroker even allows you to cancel a job you have already accepted. And the rejection rate is fairly low. Before a client can reject your work, they must give you a chance to rewrite it.
* Fun and Addictive
Because the articles are so short, the payoff is quick, and rejection rate is low, Textbroker is both fun and addictive. It’s gotten me writing more consistently
