How to plan a trip to Disney World

Anyone who has actually planned a trip to Disney World or contemplated planning a trip there, knows it can be a daunting and overwhelming task.  Disney World is the “world of make believe” where “all your dreams can come true,” but it can also can cause panic and headache for the most seasoned traveler.  So, before you take a trip to the Magic Kingdom, it is wise to plan well in advance to prepare yourself and those traveling with you.  There are 5 specifics things you need to keep in mind while planning your trip to Disney World.

First and foremost is, determine your budget.  Although Florida can be very affordable, a trip to Disney can easily blow the bank account!  You need to determine well in advance what you are willing and can afford to spend on your trip.  Can you afford to eat out each night?  Or, do you need to purchase groceries and eat in?  How much do you want to budget for souvenirs and gifts?  How many people are you budgeting for?  Is it just you, you and a significant other, or you and your entire family.  The larger the group, the more money it will take.  If it seems like you will need a large budget for your trip, start setting aside money several months in advance.  Get your family involved and if you have children, you can suggest that friends and other family members purchase “Disney Dollars” for your children in lieu of birthday or Christmas presents.  Your children will love getting “money” of their own to spend at the parks and can help “save” for the trip themselves.

Secondly, determine how long you will stay.  Trips to Disney can vary in length from a few days to a few weeks.  Determine how long you and your group are planning on staying.  If this is an once-in-a-lifetime trip, you may stay longer.  If this is an annual family event, you may stay a week.  If you are with a couple of friends, you may only stay a few days.  I knew a couple that made Disney their quick honeymoon destination and could only stay a couple of days, but made the most of their trip.  How long you stay is totally up to you and is also dependent upon your budget.  Weather can also play a huge role in this.  During the peak summer months, it is incredibly hot and humid in central Florida.  You and your family may not be acclimated to this type of weather.  If you are not, you
