(Author's note: Thwing is a village in East Yorkshire, UK)
I wish I lived in Thwing
Just to write it on my letters
I'd spend my days baking bread
and breeding Irish setters
I'd have a big oak table
with sturdy farmhouse legs
laden down with bacon
black pudding, toast and eggs
Imagine sitting by the fire
and throwing the odd log in
after going out on lonely lanes
to do a bit of jogging
The genteel parties I would throw
Summer, on the lawn
at Christmas sipping sherry
toasting mallows, popping corn
On Sunday I would go to church
to preserve my social standing
join the parish council
make sure to keep my hand in
Yes, a life devoid of pressure
enjoyed at my leisure
surrounded by the stuff I love
so every day's a pleasure.
