How to attract birds to your backyard

Birds are attracted by nature and trees.  I know the birds in my backyard love the smell of the trees and the voices that come from the people who sit outside.  They enjoy company of people and their fellow friends.  They also enjoy the squirrel, Ted, even though he is rambunctious with them at times.  The real attraction of any living thing is a warm, safe and welcome environment.  Food is not always necessarily the answer or the reason why birds gather where they gather.  I have noticed they like the music that we play outside, the right temperature of the air and the time of the day.  They enjoy soaking up the sun rays like us, and they enjoy the sounds of nature and the yard itself.  One thing they really enjoy are the flowers, I believe.

I believe the birds perched outside know what we are thinking about them.  I believe they know we like them and that they are my/our friends.  I believe they know I need them and they need me.  I believe that they are more perceptive in their nature than we believe or think.  I believe they know when someone loves them or is looking forward to seeing them.  I have noticed there are certain birds which always appear and reappear in my yard.  There is a friendly woodpecker who devotingly pecks on the same tree outside.  I believe this tree to be holy in nature and he has found a home there.  There is a lark bunting who loyally returns each week to nestle on the same tree, winding with the branches and picking the leaves which had broken in the winter but returned this spring.  There are the robins, which seemed to have claimed this yard as their own and they play outside generally during most of the hours of the day seemingly looking for a friend or mate to share their life with.

Although the birds are attracted to their own species, it seems as though they are attracted to me and my friends, for that matter and they possess some kind of protective force around the house.  It seems as though they have known me for years and they consider themselves to be my friends.  I was leery of them in the beginning; not knowing their intentions or agenda, but I am certain now that they are there for a reason and rhyme; whether that rhyme be a season or a rhythm.  I believe the best way to attract birds to your backyard is to make them feel welcome and unharmed and in a sense, that is what we all want.

If you believe in yourself the world will believe in you.....
