The question I have to ask right off would be, who among us as writers, have done enough research to make an accurate statement as to whether he is right or wrong? Global warming is real, but for everyone to agree, would mean that there are a number of sacrifices to be made by all of us should this prove to be true.
We see all the signs of this happening, with or without Al Gore and his crusade to enlighten us all. I think the biggest argument is whether or not we are the cause of it happening. I say no.
We didn't cause anything, but we are accelerating the problem that already exists, and if we don't do something to lessen our impact on our environment, this trend will continue at an accelerated pace.
Scientists around the world are in agreement that this is a real problem, and when they combine what man contributes to the problem, the alarm is sounded, and for those who believe, there is anxiety. For those who disbelieve, they will find anything and everything possible to downplay the seriousness of the problem.
Those who refuse to do the research to prove that it isn't a real problem, are the same types who always have an opinion based on here-say. They will take the easiest answer to appease their need for being correct in their assumptions. Al Gore seems to be sincere in every way, and is believable by how he presents his concerns.
A classic example of what research versus heresay would be, is the fight for legalization of marijuana. Those against will fight to the end without having one scrap of evidence to prove that they are right about prohibiting it's legalization.
For the millions upon millions who have used it for years with no real side effects, know of it's benefits for medicinal purposes. Those who use it for recreation, will tell you that all the side effects are temporary, and only last until the high begins to wane.
The point I'm making, is that most who do not believe in Global warming, or the effect it will have to America, and the rest of the world, just haven't done any real research, or watch the Discovery programs that feature such information. They bury their heads in the sand, and come up with opinions that are about as solid as loose sand.
Global warming isn't man made by a long shot. But the delicate balance of our climate can certainly be disrupted by continued negligence on our part, and once beyond a certain point, there is no reversing the problem.
