Poetry: Anything for you

Anything for you

When you asked if I would leave them and move very far away,

I kissed my family tearfully and waved as we drove away.

When you asked if I would quit my job, I surrendered my skills and knew,

That no matter the question you asked of me, I would do anything for you.

You asked me if we could wait for kids, as you wanted to be free,

And I offered to you my fertility and a secret part of me.

And you asked me to change my hair color and how I wore my jeans,

And you asked me if I could put on some weight, as you did not approve of skinny.

I changed my hair and clothes and gained some weight for you,

Those were all easy things, that took nothing much to do.

But when you asked that I give up my religion and take your God instead,

To that I could not concede as my soul would inside be dead.

And that I could not do for you like everything before,

And so you made a change for me, and for that I love you more.

Now we share one single thing, that will get us through the rest,

And for having you I’m sure of this, that forever I am blessed.
