Is their any other way to salvation, other than Jesus?
No. The temptation now is to go to Scriptures, like Jesus saying, “I am the way, the truth and the life. Nobody comes to the Father except through me.” A compelling case can be argued on this basis — but is this sufficient evidence when he is his own reference point?
Who said there is any need of a saviour, anyway?
It is quite enough to live a good, useful life, and when you die get planted six foot under, and remembered for what you have done, if anyone cares.
Some fundamentalist Christians make a song and dance about accepting Jesus as Lord, so that one can avoid the ravages of hell. What can be worse than being held captive in one of their bible-bashing churches? Is that not what hell is?
And if you listen to all the different stories, one gets a different picture. Who knows which one is the real one? “Join us, and pay up, more and more, and you will pay your way into heaven!” Or, “Join us, and go round in pairs, making others join us too, and you will be part of the 144,000 who make it into heaven — never mind that the Bible says those are all from the tribes of Israel.”
I ask again, who said there is any need of a saviour, anyway?
Look at the people on the streets, and the way they drive. Each one says, “I am secure in my vehicle, I am god of all I survey, and everyone better get out of my way, or I will show them that they need a saviour!”
When Satan tempted Adam and Eve, he said, “You can be like gods.” “Well, we sure are gods. I can do whatever I want, but just let anyone else think they can get away with anything, I will show them! They will need a saviour, for sure.”
“Oops, I am thinking just like them. Maybe we all need a saviour, to save me from myself. How do I do it, how do I find one?” A faint voice in memory says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” I think, “What have I got to lose, I will try his way. Yes, Jesus, come into my life, and save me, if you think I need saving.”
“Hey. I had my doubts, but this is for real, and what a difference. Thank you, Lord.”
