Whether you are looking for hot fashion trends to help you find a Mother's Day gift, or you are a woman who is trying to figure out what's happening in the world of fashion, you are likely going to be pleased that this year's spring trends are very attractive, fun looking and hip. No matter how old your mother is, there is no reason why she can't feel like the paragon of fashion, either because of the great gift you find, or because she knows what the best buys of the season will be.

For women who don't feel that wearing shorts is age appropriate, knee pants are this year's new trend. Tunics, brightly colored t-shirts and tops are also popular. It is a season where clothing can easily be mixed and matched, and where little things can update an outfit without forcing you to spend a lot of money.

What is hot this spring?

There are lots of trends this spring, some of which have been around for a while and others that are newer. Tunics are very big, and they are well suited to women with most body types. Shirts and dresses that wrap are also fashionable, as are tops and dresses that have an empire waste. That emphasizes the smallest part of a woman, creating a very figure flattering look.

Hemlines run the gamut from long  to micro mini, or knee length. This goes for dresses, skirts and even shorts. Women who don't necessarily want to wear shorts may feel perfectly okay wearing knee length pants or gaucho pants (which can look like a skirt,) because these will be comfortable, fashionable and practical.

*Bags -

Bags are a big fashion accessory because they can transform a seemingly dull outfit into something that is much hipper. Bags come in a range of prices from very cheap to moderate or expensive. Be sure that the bag isn't overdone. A tiny person would look ridiculous with a gigantic bag. Conversely, a tall woman look equally silly with a small bag.

For spring, color is a great option in bags. Look for bright colors that can go with any outfit, and that can be used for casual wear or evening wear. Make sure that the bag you choose is suited to your personal needs. It is easy to get wrapped up in the desire to be "hip" and trendy and forget the utilitarian aspect of a bag.

*Scarves -

Scarves are another great way to dress up an outfit. They are a hot item this season, so a brightly colored scarf can add a touch of badly needed color to a plain suit, a pair of jeans, or even an uninspired shirt. The beauty of scarves is that they can be used to change the look
