Is it wise to trust God?

God designed the entire world, knows what every person is doing and thinking at all times, and can work all these things together for His purpose. How can we not trust Him? It’s easy if we forget how powerful, loving, and omniscient He is. When we feel our humanity, our inabilities, and our limits, we forget about his limitlessness. That’s when we have to depend on our faith in Him and trust that He will equip us so we can do what He plans for us. “For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 There is no wiser way to live than with God in charge. Why do we think our way is better than His? If we get off of His path for our lives, pride can also take over but the question is the same—How do we trust God with our lives?

A Wise Person Trusts God

Most of us have probably seen the bumper stickers that say, “God is my copilot.” A friend in my bible study once said that if God’s your copilot, then you need to switch seats. We are limited as humans by the little bit of life we experience in our short time here. That’s why it can be difficult for us to wrap our minds around the idea of an infinite and infinitely wise God. When we do, we are awed and realize the best way to live is to follow the one in charge.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones." Proverbs 3:5-7

In the maze of life, especially American life with all of its possibilities and choices, finding your path seems at times more difficult than anything. CIRANO, a private nonprofit organization, completed a study called “Major Choices: Undergraduate Concentrations and the Probability of Graduation” which found that students choose their college concentration based in part on their perceived probability of success. They were more likely to choose a major in which they felt they would do well.

We want to succeed and will choose the path that seems to lead there. We all know it is unrealistic to think that there won’t be some problems that will happen along any path we take, but sometimes the path that God presents seems harder than others. The good news is the proverb
