As a writer who will publish her first poetry book within the next year, I am going to have to side with the fact that poets are needed within society. If there were no poets in society, we as humans would not be able to express our emotions as thoroughly as when one are able to express and organize them into a poem. Also, even though poetry falls within the boundaries of writing and being a writer, there are some characteristics about poetry which differentiate it between the other forms of writing.

Poetry is a form of writing in which one is able to express one's emotions in a style and format which one deems the best for the outcome of each individual poem. It should also be noted that poetry is not defined as having to have a certain meaning - poetry's meaning is subjective to the writer and to the reader's point of view. One can say that the poet does not have as much control of the outcome of a poet being that it depends on the experiences of each individual reader whether he or she will like the poem and/or its style.

Poets are people who are able to express what they feel in words which others are able to identify with. The great thing about poetry and about being considered a poet is that everyone can potentially be a poet. One can write poetry for leisure or for a living but, the important thing is to be able to express one's emotions in a way in which one feels good about and without fear of how the reader will feel about it.

Poetry is not as much about meaning as it is about style and formatting. Therefore, it is more important how the poem is organized than to what the poem is about. There will always be someone who will appreciate the poem and that is what makes a poet feel good about his or her art. It should also be remembered that a poet does not write in order to be accepted as much as he or she writes in order to express his or her emotions.

After having analyzed some of the aspects of poetry and poets, one can see how poets are necessary in society. Poetry is about feeling and emotion and what would society be if we do not feel and simply "do"? It is my personal opinion that everyone should appreciate the art that is poetry and that we should all sit down and write a poem every once in a while. The best thing is that as long as it makes sense to you, it does not have to make sense to anyone else.
