The environmental-destructive capacity of human beings

by Richard Serra

We all know that our planet is alive and kicking. But just as we humans are alive and subject to many threats to our well being, so is our planet plagued by threats to its environment. Those threats come from many natural forms, and the most serious in our time frame is from the human race gone wild. In short, we are the cancer of this planet. Just as cancer cells invade our system and reduce us to a shell, we are doing the exact same thing to this planet. We are reducing the chances of human survial, and all other creatures as well by our destructive ways.
Little attention has been paid to the long term consequences of altering the balance of nature as we do.
Its most likely too late to reverse many of those consequences, and by not being able to do so, it will begin the domino effect that will spell the end of a life support system, the only one of its kind, and hence threaten our very existence on this planet.
