She knew he was standing behind her, though he had not yet spoken, nor had he even touched her, but she knew he was there. He had been staring at her since she arrived, it didn't matter that there were more than three hundred people at this party, she could feel his eyes on her, they seemed to be willing her, caressing her, devouring her.
She spent the next two hours exchanging inane pleasantries with work acquaintances and people she had never met, trying hard to ignore his presence. She did steal a quick glance or two when she was sure he wasn't looking and though their eyes met ever so briefly she was sure it wasn't long enough for him to read her decadent thoughts. When she realized the direction her thoughts were taking she quickly masked her expression and turned to make small talk with the elderly couple to her right. It proved to be futile, whatever room she wandered into, he seem to find his way into the same room. She wondered why he didn't come talk to her, seeming content, to just watch her with that smug smoldering half smile. She was glad he hadn't, because she didn't know what she would do if he did.
She was tiring of this cat and mouse game they seemed to be playing, she didn't understand the rules and her nerves were on edge. She had a sense of anticipation, of what she was not really sure. When he abruptly stood up and walked out of the room she thought he must have also tired of their game, moving on to easier prey, no doubt, but she still had to resist the urge to seek him out.
She decided against looking for him, but her eyes scanned the room anyway. Suddenly the room seemed to be stifling, she needed a drink and some fresh air. She grabbed a glass of wine and walked out to the patio but there were quite a few people outside smoking so she walked down the path to the edge of the woods. Breathing in the fresh air seemed to be calming her rattled nerves. Her calm was short lived because she could feel him standing behind her, she wasn't sure when he came, only that he was there. Her first instinct was to run but her feet seem glued to the ground. He took a step closer still not touching her, still not a word spoken between them.
He stood just a step behind her, not ready to touch her yet because he knew if he did he might just throw her to the ground and take her right
