Paintball: Tips for beginners

by Brandon Rutter

Created on: April 15, 2010

As a beginner myself, I can recall a few basic tricks that have spared me some nasty welts already, and a good few techniques I wish I'd focused on earlier - could have spared me a bunch more.  Rather than learn the hard way, as I often did, I invite you to learn from my mistakes.  Having a positive first experience with paintball helps tremendously with building skills and confidence therein, and opens the door to a world of fun.

To develop into a seasoned paintball warrior, there are three general areas of improvement:  Mental, physical, and equipment.  A sharper mind - to better sense danger and detect opportunities.  Physical conditioning - to effectively evade and pursue.  And proper gear, to best suit your preferences and environment.

First, mind - in my opinion the most vital of the three regardless of skill level.  A good mentality will not only improve your statistics; it will enhance the experience for you and your team as well!  As with any sport, the first thing to remember:

-Know your team.

Remember, you are not alone.  If your team works together, you are much more effective than if each member does his/her own thing.  Participate in strategy discussions.  Learn each member's strengths and weaknesses.  The best thing a team can do to succeed is communicate.

Number two:  Body.  Being in good shape is beneficial in any physical sport, but it will also prevent you from getting
