God is with you

by Joi Elece Richard

Created on: April 15, 2010

When reading this note it might be hard to keep up. I have these thoughts rolling in my head, and it seems that I cannot type fast enough to convey this "note" the way it is playing in my mind. Hopefully, it will make sense to you all.

Being that I have been home, I have had a lot of time to think lately. During this time, I have been meditating on God's Word and trying to figure out what He wants of me. In trying to figure it out, the Lord brought "emotions" to my attention.

What are emotions? Emotions are: an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive (mind; thoughts) and volitional (will; self control) states of consciousness.

So, everyone has emotions and I have always wondered why emotions are really discussed in the Bible, or why God doesn't work with us "emotionally." Well, now I know.

Emotions are feelings that we have, but they are never 100% accurate. Emotions AGITATE your feelings, making them unbalanced/uncontrollable, and can cause physiological changes; such as sweating and irregular heart beats, or even outward manifestations, such as: crying and shaking. This means that when you allow emotions to control you, you are unable to think clearly, make good choices, or even hear the Lord speak.

Now - to the meat of this message: I have been hurt, and I used one of the most common emotions to cover up how I felt...anger. When I was angry, it covered up any other emotions that I may have possessed, such as: hurt, pain, love, etc. I just felt mad, and I was happy with that...but, then I started feeling something was wrong with me being angry all the time. Why? Well, if I am angry, cold hearted and callous to another person, how can I stand up and proclaim that I love the Lord?

Love cannot dwell in anger. Love is pure, whereas anger is not. It reminds me of the passage in (Matt 6:24) No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by/be devoted to the one, and despises and war against the other. You cannot service God and mammon (deceit, lies, money, possessions, things that will distract you from the path of the Lord) (Amplified)

You might wonder why I used that analogy...well if God is pure love, and you are running around angered/hating...you are NOT in His will and are sinning. God cannot dwell where there is sin. After I came upon this revelation, I realized that I needed to stop and assess my emotions, so that
