Will the new Nintendo WII be a success?

Will the Wii be a success? Absolutely! Nintendo hasn't just hit the nail on the head with this one. They've drove the nail straight through the board and out the other side. I see no way the Wii can fail, and here is why.

The Wii is about gaming. Pure video gaming. Something that Sony and to an extent Microsoft have forgot. I don't need a game system that plays fancy-pants Blue Ray or HD DVDs. I don't care about high output video connections, 7.5 surround sound ports and the endless other array of near useless options these other systems come packed with. They mean nothing to your average consumer and simply drive the price of the system so far out of the "every man" price range that it isn't even funny.

I grew up playing the Nintendo games of old, Mario 3 and the Legend of Zelda. We didn't play because of amazingly rendered backgrounds and high polygon counts. We played because the games were a fun escape that you could sit with for a few hours and just simply have FUN with. They didn't rely on expensive TV sets and high output surround sound systems to "maximize the experience". They just had to be fun.

The Nintendo Wii is a return to the glory days of old. Gone is the complex modern video game controller with its front jam-packed with buttons. It its place sits a remote so unique that you can't help but not smile when you think about it. Who doesn't love the idea of being able to move your character on screen by actually MOVING the controller in your hand? We've all done it without realizing it in the past now we get to do it for real.

Nintendo has re-connected with an audience that Sony and Microsoft have forgot about. Us the video game fan. The one who doesn't care how shiny a game looks, but rather about how much FUN he or she can have with it. Video games don't have to be these complex high-end machines that only the uber rich can afford. They should be for everyone to enjoy. And for everyone to love. This is ultimately why Nintendo will succeed and Sony and Microsoft will fail.
