Beyond the Water's Edge
I stand along her graceful shore
Unconsoled, only she knows of my pain
I stare into the water's edge
Her hues of darkened rain
She grieves, the sea, for alone she knows
why I've come here to this place
Though the wind will tell my final tale
as the water mists my face
One step, no two, she welcomes me
as she takes me by the hand
The water rises around my soul
as my shoes fill up with sand
Gently then, she embraces me
as she stands here by my side
I feel a comfort I've never known
as I'm swept into her tide
I have no thoughts of my emptiness
for only she now fills my mind
I do not think now of my past
or the life I leave behind
Though in her arms I am now free
to the Gods I must atone
For I've walked beyond the water's edge
and my heart will turn to stone.
