Soft skin.
Pampered and unbroken; gentle.
Ten fingers, ten toes.
Eyes of wonder.
They glance up at every shape, size and transition.
Wisps of hair that smell like talc and fresh berries, I inhale.
Every step taken, a new adventure.
Every word listened to, a teaching tool.
Every fall, scrape, burn or scratch, needing a kiss.
White feathers fall from the sky.
Leaves rich in color.
Red and green left to be explored.
Puddles to jump in.
Rocks to throw.
Bikes to ride.
Report cards to show.
Dreams never to be forgotten.
Groundings and lectures.
Heartaches and worries.
Nightmares left for hiding under pillows.
Giggles and claps.
Nose pinches and tickles to make you laugh.
I am amazed each day when I look at my creation.
It keeps my heart beating faster.
That's my inspiration.

Let me see, what inspires me
The crisp air of a winter morn
The setting sun on a placid sea
A rustic room, fireplace warm
I am a loner
Solitary—solitaire
By choice so often
Yet chasing another
If only in my mind
That one is certain to not
