Being careful when driving in a school zone helps keep children safe and alive. When driving in a school zone, you should also be aware that fines for speeding and other traffic infractions will cost a lot more money if you get pulled over. The main concern should be for the children who are walking in the school zone.
Here are some driving safety tips for school zones:
Slow Down
This is the biggest problems with driving in a school zone. People don't take the speed limit seriously. Pay attention to the speed limit posted for the school zone. Go that speed limit and no faster. You never know when a child might step out into traffic. Although there are crossing guards at most schools today, children will sometimes slip by. You will never be able to forgive yourself if you hit a child. Slow down and make it much safer for everyone.
Pay Attention
Pay attention to areas that children could be hiding behind. Such places could be between parked cars. They will dart out in front out of you without notice. Being aware of possible dangers around you will keep the children much safer and you from getting charged with an accident that could take a life.
Have Your Foot Ready
When you are driving through a school zone, have your foot ready to hit the brake. Be prepared to stop suddenly when you are in a school zone. Don’t be caught off guard which can be deadly for a child who isn't paying attention. It is our job to make sure we take all precautions to make sure the children are safe. Keep your foot ready to hit the brakes!
Crossing Guards
Watch out for the crossing guards and pay attention to what they are telling you to do. You run the risk of hitting a child or the crossing guard if you aren't careful in a school zone. It just isn't worth the risk. If you want to make sure that everyone is safe in a school zone, you will do what you are supposed to do.
It is utterly important that you take caution when you are driving in a school zone. If you don't do what you are supposed to do, you could seriously injure an innocent person. Children are known to run into traffic without notice. They are children and they don't realize what risk they are taking. You are an adult and you should no better so behave accordingly!
