The seven deadly sins

Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

Proverbs 6:16-24 Proverbs 6

16 These six things doth the LORD hate : yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Pride In almost every list Pride  is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is  a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of self.In perhaps the best-known example, the story of Satan.

What it is: Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity. I think this is what God talks about in the bible when he speaks of pride. It says"pride goeth before a fall". Now is God talking about taking pride in ones self, like appearance, cleanliness, taking care of yourself and your possessions? Being proud of your children in a normal, healthy way? NO God is talking about when that is ALL you are about. When you come first, and God comes second to your vanity.

You can do any thing in moderation, or any thing extreme. I think indulgence in any thing is a bad thing. Especially when that gets in the way of God and your relationship with him.

God talks about a haughty spirit in the bible. I think that is a puffed up attitude, where pride and vanity exist. When one becomes proud and boastful, obnoxious. Where God doesn't exist in any conversation or thought. Only thoughts and speech of one's self.
