The iPod touch is a portable media player that offers consumers digital assistance and WI-Fi mobile capabilities. The iPod touch puts music, games, and so much more in the palm of your hand. The iPod touch is available in 8GB,32GB, and 64GB depending on personal needs.

The iPod is available in three generations each with their own unique capabilities. Your iPod can be used for buying products from iTunes as long as you have a Wi-Fi connection. Each generation of the iPod needs its own connection to the Internet for syncing media and for installing new software updates.

So how does a user connect their iPod touch to a local network?

To connect your iPod touch to a Wi-Fi or wireless network can be quite challenging. Many consumers find this to be a real challenge due to the endless choices of wireless and security items used for setting up and securing a wireless connection. Just because your iPod touch has Wi-Fi capabilities this does not guarantee it will connect to every local network available. Below are steps for connecting our iPod touch to a local network.

1). First you must turn on your iPod touch. Some do forget to turn on their device so make sure the iPod is on and the battery is charged.

2). Press the "home" button:

The iPod must be at the home page to successfully set up a wireless connection.

3). Click the "settings" icon:

This is the first step in the journey to wireless connectivity.

4). Click the "Wi-Fi" icon

5). Slide the "Wi-Fi" icon to the "on" position:

This icon must be in the "on" position for the Internet service to communicate with your iPod.

6). Move the "ask to join networks" icon to the "on" position:

This is an important step  in finding Wi-Fi applications available for the area in which your iPod will be accessed most often.

7). Wait patiently...

Your iPod needs to have proper time to detect wireless networks available in its range. If you see three bars of signal then the connectivity is close and easy accessible. If you see fewer than three bars return to the "Wi-Fi" setting in step five and slide it "off" and then "on" again.

8). If your network has a lock icon this means you will need a password to connect to this network. Click the menu that is showing and enter a password.

If you are successful a tick mark will appear: if you are not the security was not set up for the iPod network.

9). If you did not successfully log in to this network connection click the "other" icon and go to the "other network" to set up a Wi-Fi connection.

10). Once this is accessed enter the name of your wireless network and select the security protocol used for this particular network. Such choices of protocol are WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA enterprise, and WPA2 enterprise. You may need to contact your local Wi-Fi or Internet provider to request their protocol code.

11). Your final step is entering a password for this network. Click on the color coded "join" icon which will appear at the bottom of your screen.

These steps will help you successfully connect your iPod touch to a Wi-Fi connection for easy web access. Once you have successfully connected you iPod touch now you can enjoy fast downloads of all your music, movies and so much more.
