Islamic prescriptions concerning food and drink keep Muslims mindful in their everyday lives of Allah’s will. As said forth in the Quran and the hadith the rules are based on the categories of pure and impure and of lawful and unlawful. According to Islam, all wholesome and good thins are allowed to be used as food. As a general rule, every food is lawful unless it is declared unlawful by the Islamic Law. The over whelming majority of foods are lawful in Islam.
Forbidden foods are carrion, blood, pork and what has been sacrificed to idols, flesh eating animals and birds. The flesh of swine in any form is forbidden. Hence any food which contains pork, whether it is bread or ice-cream is forbidden.
The divine decrees regarding food are in the best interest of our health, as modern medicine has also discovered. Pork is unhealthy on various counts. They are of course renowned for their filthiness, living on offal and rotten foods. Its flesh is prone to diseases. The pig is lazy by nature and indulgent in sex. It dislikes sunlight. It lacks the spirit and will to strive. It prefers dirty places to clean ones. It is the biggest storehouse of harmful germs. And it is for this reason that it is not suitable for consumption. Pork resurrects old ailments, leads to sterility and fosters rheumatism and asthma. The eating of pork causes the weakening of memory and the shredding of hair. Modern science has now tracked down pork as one of the causes of baldness and the weakening of memory.
We often see pork sellers who are usually stout and fat. This may not necessarily be a sign of health it may well be the result of continuous contact with pork and the diseases which pork carries. The flesh of swine is mostly infected with trichina worms. There is however, no guarantee of safety even when eating pork which is not affected by trichina worms. To take pork then is a gamble with one’s health and one’s life is at stake. It must be borne clearly in mind that the flesh if any animal may contain infectious germs but pork reins supreme in the matter of germs and parasites.
Among all varieties of meats that are known to human beings, the more we study pork the more we dread it. Scientists have found more than ninety kinds of diseases in pigs. Numerous kinds of germs are found in pork. There are fat worms like a sheet of paper. When you eat pork, the germs will grow in your muscles. They are thread like germs which inhabit the human bowels almost permanently. If they reach the skin, manage and paralytic strokes will end the pork eater’s life.
In the teachings of Islam, the prohibition of pork is only one of the thousands of tenets of the right religion.
